Jaime Alguersuari has assumed pole position for round 21 of the British Formula 3 International Series after Brendon Hartley was penalised for setting his best lap under yellow flags.

The New Zealander was one of several drivers to be penalised, although the punishment of having his best lap taken away from him only drops him to second place behind his team-mate. It is significant for the title race though as it places a car between the Spaniard and championship leader Oliver Turvey in third.

Nick Tandy was probably the biggest loser, the Mygale driver dropping from fourth to 13th position, while a penalty for Sam Abay ensures he stays fifth and Dean Smith leaps from sixth to fourth on his Formula 3 debut.

Marcus Ericsson, Sergio Perez and Max Chilton - who was already serving a ten-place grid penalty - were also punished by stewards. As was Henry Surtees, who lost his National Class pole position to Jay Bridger in the process.
