Ericsson joins Carlin.

Carlin has announced the signing of British F3 front-runner Marcus Ericsson for its end of season assault on the annual Macau Grand Prix.

Ericsson, who raced against Carlin in his debut F3 season with Fortec, will join newly crowned British F3 champion Jaime Alguersuari, Oliver Turvey and Brendon Hartley in the four-man Carlin line-up for the event.

Of the quartet, Hartley will be the only one to have raced at Macau before, with the 18-year-old taking twelfth place on his first outing in the Chinese enclave.

As a result, the Kiwi heads into the event as one of the expected front-runners although his three team-mates should also challenge given their performances during the British campaign.

“We're very exited to return for the 55th Macau Grand Prix, as it is one of the most prestigious motorsport events in the world,” team boss Trevor Carlin said. “I'm very happy to have such a strong driver line-up, three of which are known quantities to us, plus the exceptionally talented Marcus Ericsson.

“Although three of our drivers will be Macau rookies, we have a strong leader in the team in the form of Brendon Hartley, who competed with us last year and put in a great performance. It will be an exciting conclusion to our championship winning year in F3, and a great opportunity to prove ourselves against the world's best F3 teams and drivers.”

Alguersuari in particular said he couldn't wait to take part in the event as he seeks to add a Macau victory to his record-breaking British title win.

“I'm really looking forward to going to Macau,” he said. “I've had an amazing last few races and to go to Macau as British F3 champion is a great feeling. I know Macau is going to be a real challenge; it's one of the most difficult circuits in the world and catches a lot of drivers out.

“Macau is the race that every driver wants to win, and I know I will face tough competition from both my team mates and other drivers, but I will be attacking it in the same way as I did the final races in the British series.”
