Double R promote BMW star Huertas.

Carlos Huertas will graduate to the British Formula 3 Championship in 2009 after signing a deal to remain with Raikkonen Robertson Racing.

Seventeen-year-old Huertas, who joined the Double R Racing team in 2007, competed with them in the Formula BMW UK Championship before moving on to Formula BMW Europe this season.

Managing a brace of top five finishes towards the end of the year, including a podium at the concluding Monza round, Huertas has now been promoted by Double R to form part of their Formula 3 outfit.

Set to be one of the youngest drivers to compete in British Formula 3, the Colombian racer was delighted to be staying with the team.

“I'm very excited about next season and to be making the move up to Formula 3,” Huertas, who made his F3 debut at Surfers' Paradise last month, said.

“I'm very happy in the Double R team and I'm pleased that I can make this next step up in my career with them. British F3 is a great championship that has produced many of today's top drivers, so I'm looking forward to competing in the championship in 2009 with one of the best teams.”

British F3 Champions with Mike Conway back in 2006, team manager Anthony Hieatt admits he has been impressed with Huertas in testing so far and is confident he can impress in his maiden season.

“Carlos is a well liked member of the team, and we're delighted that he's chosen to stay on with us as he makes the step up to Formula 3. Carlos has already completed quite a bit of testing with us in the F3 car, and has adapted very well. Judging on the progress he's made already, I think he will have a strong first year in F3 in 2009.”
