Shaaban joins Prema for Euro campaign.

Prema Powerteam has announced that it has agreed a deal with Basil Shaaban that will see the Lebanese driver take part in the 2009 F3 Euroseries season.

Shaaban will be the first driver from the Middle East to compete in Prema colours as he gets set to attack the Euroseries for a third time.

He will join forces with Stefano Coletti, with a third driver set to be announced in the coming days.

"We were really impressed by Basil's skills during the test he had with us, especially as his overall experience is still limited,” team principal Angelo Rosin said. “Our goal is to help him express his strong points, and we hope our determination will make us even stronger, in order to work our way through a successful 2009 season."

Shaaban himself said he was thrilled by the deal and said he was hopeful of a solid season when the new campaign kicks off in May at Hockenheim.

"It is with great pleasure that I enter my third year of F3 partnering a team of Prema's calibre and heritage,” he said. “In my first two seasons of F3 Euro Series I developed significantly, and I'm honoured that Prema has affirmed my potential and is committed to our 2009 challenge together.

“The team impressed me during our winter test at Estoril in mixed conditions, where we worked in a focused and productive manner. With Prema's capabilities, spirit to excel and my strong team-mates, this year will be a real opportunity to perform at the next level. I'm clearly very excited about working together the months ahead to develop our 2009 package for a strong start to the season."
