Proving that his Oulton Park double was no fluke, Aussie ace Daniel Ricciardo claimed a third victory in four races by triumphing in the second outing of the weekend at Silverstone.

Having finished 'only' fifth in race one, the 19-year old Perth native started from second on the grid in the late afternoon round, shadowed Carlin Motorsport team-mate Max Chilton until three laps from the end, then pounced when the Briton ran into gear selection problems. The glitch apparently temporary, Chilton fought back to run side-by-side with the Red Bull machine down the Hangar Straight, but was finally forced to admit defeat at Stowe.

"We stayed in formation for most of the race," Ricciardo noted afterwards, "Max's first few laps were good and he pulled a gap, then I started to feel a bit more comfortable with the car and saw him have a few problems, a bit of oversteer. With a few laps to go, I managed to get alongside him through the Maggotts/Becketts section and got the run on him down the straight."

Perhaps dispirited at seeing a long-held lead vanish in unfortunate circumstances, Chilton then fell victim to an opportunistic move from Riki Christodoulou, who dived up the inside at Abbey two laps from the flag to snatch second place.

"I had a good lead and knew that Dan wouldn't have the pace to pass me...," a frustrated Chilton commented, "Then, three laps from the end, I tried going down through the gears and it just wouldn't, so I lost at least a second trying to get it to go in gear. Dan got a tow off me and did a good move and that was the end of the race to be honest."

Chilton was later voted Sunoco Driver of the Weekend for his efforts, but it was little consolation as he watched Fortec driver Christodoulou celebrate his maiden podium finish from the step above him. The result was enough to promote Christodoulou to third in the championship, one place and two points ahead of Chilton.

Nick Tandy slipped into second place overall after a typically gutsy drive for the JTR team, charging from tenth to fifth in his Mygale and smashing the hours-old circuit lap record in the process. Tandy was closing on Daisuke Nakajima in the closing stages, but his pace tailed off in the latter stages, allowing RRR's Japanese star to ease out an eight-second cushion by the flag.

Race one victor Renge van der Zande had held third place for the first twelve laps, and appeared on course for a podium debut on his British F3 debut, only to be unseated by Christodoulou and then suffer a power loss which dropped him to twelfth by the end.

Nakajima headed those to benefit from the Dutchman's misfortune, while Henry Arundel, Walter Grubmuller and Carlos Huertas came home sixth, seventh and eighth respectively, unable to find past each other throughout the 18 laps. Oliver Oakes and Adriano Buzaid completed the top ten - the Brazilian having lost ground after running sixth early on - while Wayne Boyd also got ahead of vd Zande by the flag.

Buzaid's countryman and T-Sport team-mate Gabriel Dias pinched the National Class win from the clutches of Fortec driver, and points leader, Daniel McKenzie on the final lap. McKenzie continues to hold a 17-point advantage in the standings after a brace of seconds over the weekend.
