Euro: Vietoris secures Lausitz win

Christian Vietoris has secured his first win of the F3 Euroseries season with victory in the second race of the weekend at Lausitz.

At the home circuit for the Mucke Motorsport team, Vietoris led the race from start to finish to cap a fine end to a meeting that had started poorly when he only managed to qualify 13th on the grid. However, his eighth place in race one was enough to secure pole for race two and he duly picked up the victory.

“I am happy with my first victory of the season,” he said. “Following my rather poor qualifying with 13th place, I still scored some points this weekend. In the end, these points can still turn out to be important.”

Vietoris eventually came home nearly five seconds clear of Roberto Mehri, who held off the challenge of Sam Bird to secure his place on the podium. Valtteri Bottas has held second early on before being given a drive-through penalty for jumping the start.

Brendon Hartley took fourth for Carlin as he repeated his result from race one with Henkie Waldschmidt in fifth, whole Mika Maki secured the final point after battling through from twelfth.

Jules Bianchi retains the points lead, despite finishing down in 14th place.
