Jean-Eric Vergne picked up his second win of the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series season opener to secure his position as championship leader heading away from Oulton Park.
The Carlin driver dominated the 40 minute feature race and led from start-to-finish to give his team a third win of the weekend after Rupert Svendsen-Cook won race two.
Local driver Oli Webb was the only man able to keep Vergne honest during the race, having jumped to second place when Carlos Huertas stalled at the start. Webb followed closely behind Vergne through the opening laps but a slight error on lap four gave Vergne the breathing space he needed to eek out a slight advantage. The pair finished the race split by little more than a second.
Following his race two win, Svendsen-Cook took third place – giving Carlin a 1-3 finish – with Gabriel Dias bouncing back from his disappointment in race two to finish fourth.
Adriano Buzaid was fifth for Carlin ahead of team-mate James Calado – who showed overtaking round Oulton Park is
possible as he came through from 14th place on the grid to sixth. Daisuke Nakajima, Jay Bridger, Alex Brundle and Daniel McKenzie rounded out the top ten.
In the National Class, James Cole took victory following the first lap retirement of his only rival – T-Sport team-mate Menasheh Idafar.
