SRT boss pleased to set pace

SRT team boss Patrick Selleslagh declared himself pleased with the results of the FIA GT Championship test at Monza after seeing his Corvette C6.R lead the way during the two-day Italian session.

Xavier Maassen and Christophe Bouchut led the way during the test, which saw the field come together for the first time ahead of the opening rounds of the season at Silverstone next month.

Although Bouchut's time was half a second off the pole position time from 2007, it was still enough to edge out the Gigawave Aston Martin by a tenth of a second after two-days of trouble-free running for the Corvette squad.

“We still need to get to know the car through and through and therefore a trouble-free test session is exceptionally important,” Selleslagh said. “We mustn't allow this performance to be taken out of context. We're talking about test days, and the real work will start in a week's time in Nogaro, for what concerns the French championship and in a month's time at Silverstone for the FIA GT-championship.

“The first day was exceptionally good. Both drivers, Xavier Maassen and Christophe Bouchut fulfilled their job outstandingly well, and by the end of the day we were up amongst the top players. These drivers are compatible and obviously a homogenous team is a major asset when it comes to endurance racing. I'm also highly pleased that we didn't experience any mechanical or other problems, and that we were able to fully concentrate on the car's set-up.

“It's of major importance that in the week's to come we thoroughly master the car; allowing us to take on the season fully prepared.”
