Gigawave confident heading to Zolder

Allan Simonsen and Philipp Peter both believe that a first win for the Gigawave Motorsport team is getting closer as the Aston Martin team heads to Zolder for the final European race of the FIA GT Championship season.

The Gigawave squad made its debut in the series in the 2007 season finale at the Belgian circuit and makes the short trip back across the channel having enjoyed a solid first full year of competition – capped by a podium finish in the Spa 24 Hours.

With the DBR9 having been on the pace at the majority of events thus far in 2008, Simonsen said he was confident that a breakthrough win isn't far away.

“I have never been this hungry for a win and I believe that we are close,” he said. “We have real momentum in terms of pace and confidence. The Championship is really hotting up and we have so much to play for.”

Team-mate Peter meanwhile, who took part in the debut race alongside Luke Hines, added that the focus of the team was firmly on taking to the top step of the podium.

“Zolder is quite a challenge in terms of the car's set-up,” he said. “There are a number of slow chicanes but also some faster corners and one or two overtaking opportunities, so the way we engineer the car will be a compromise, in order to get the best out of it for this circuit.

“Tyre choice will be vital if the weather behaves as badly as usual but, whatever issues we face, our goal is clear: recover from the last few races and fight for the top step.”
