Vitaphone pair clinch title.

Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels were able to celebrate their second championship title in the FIA GT Championship title after successfully wrapping up the 2008 crown in the final round of the season at Argentina.

The Vitaphone Racing duo went into the weekend aware that only Mike Hezemans and Fabrizio Gollin could prevent them from lifting the title.

Knowing that their rivals realistically had to win the race, Bertolini and Bartels elected to take a conservative approach to the final two-hour and fifth place was enough to ensure they added to the crown taken in 2006.

"The track's condition was really difficult and this turned the race – which should have been a stroll in the park – into a sort of lottery in which anything could happen," Bartels admitted. "In the end we once again emerged as champions and this is what counts.

"I would like to thank Stephane Sarrazin and Eric van de Poele from here in Argentina for the fantastic job they did in Spa, enabling us to win the 24 Hour, which once again proved to be the key race to win the championship.

"I'd also like to emphasise the great job the San Luis community did in creating this circuit in just nine months."

While I congratulate these guys on a successful championship, I hope the FIA finally stops pandering to this team and bans this car... It does not meet, and never has met the full rules as set out for GT1, and even the restrictions placed on it to allow it to race are not enough
