BMW announces GT4 version of M3

BMW has revealed that it is to offer a GT4-spec version of its M3 model for use by customer teams.

The car, which would be eligible for a number of series' around Europe, is now available to order from BMW's Motorsport Distribution Division at a price of €120,000 plus VAT and comes on the heels of BMW announcing a return to the American Le Mans Series for 2009 with a GT2 version of the M3.

The German manufacturer already offers its Z4M Coupe and 120d for use in endurance competition, while Alpina is due to launch its GT3-spec version of the 6 Series shortly.

“In 2009, we will witness the BMW M3 racing not only for the BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team in the American Le Mans series,” BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen said. “The new BMW M3 GT4 now also provides private teams with numerous opportunities.

“For over 50 years customer racing has been a cornerstone of BMW's motorsport programmes. After all, what better global ambassador for the performance pedigree of BMW cars than a privateer who is competing for victory in a BMW vehicle.”
