Aston Martin Racing has announced that it is evaluating options for the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship after receiving interest from customers interested in contesting the new series.

The series will see cars running to the new-for-2010 GT1 regulations, which will make the current GT1 models seen in the FIA GT Championship become obsolete.

As things stand, two cars for the 2010 season have already hit the track with both the Ford GT and the Nissan GT-R running in the series this year while Reiter Engineering has announced that it plans to develop a Lamborghini Murcielago SV to fit into the new rules.

Customers have told AMR that the preferred choice for next season would be to run the DBR9 model as used by the factory team prior to this seasons move to prototype competition, and commercial director Tony Schulp said it was possible that the car could be modified to fit the new regulations.

"It is virtually impossible for us to develop a new car for the championship, but we could prepare a package of modifications for the DBR9 in time for next season," he said. "The DBR9 is a proven car with a great pedigree.

"If the necessary waivers are granted by the FIA then we are ready to support our customers who wish to see it continue to race."

Both Jetalliance Racing and Gigawave Motorsport used the DBR9 during the 2008 season, although the only Aston Martin on the grid this season has been the GT2 Vantage of the Hexis Racing AMR squad.
