Karting to start 2013 with a bang at Autosport Show
21 December 2012
The karting industry will be out in force at the Autosport International next month as the dedicated Karting Pavilion from the Formula Kart Stars series will make a return.
The Pavilion made its debut last year as karting became more prominent at Autosport International. Karting champion and coach Terry Fullerton was interviewed on the centre stage. In a tribute to Ayrton Senna, his DAP kart was displayed along with his cars in Hall 20.
The DAP kart will appear at Formula Kart Stars, along with a Lotus-Renault 98T F1 car. A kart and a Benetton B192 driven by Michael Schumacher will also be exhibited along with a Zip Yamaha driven by Lewis Hamilton and an ex Jenson Button Super A.
Formula Kart Stars director Carolynn Hoy said: "We are delighted to once again be exhibiting at the Autosport Show in 2013, and proud to once again be asked to host the Karting Stage on our stand. This year promises to be something special, using our strap line given to us by Mr Bernie Ecclestone of 'The Road to Formula One through Racing and Education' the stand will be centred around the theme 'From Karts to Cars.'
"The stand will play host to a number of karts raced by former F1 World Champions, along with their more recent F1 cars. Along with this we will build on our impressive guest list of stars on stage, hosted by Alan Hyde and Henry Beaudette, present our awards to our champions from 2012, and importantly announce our exciting new plans for 2013."
The Super One series, the Association of British Karting Clubs, the British Kart Industry Association, the British Historic Kart Club and the British Superkart Association will also have stands at the show.
Another significant event for karters will be the Johnny Herbert Karting Challenge hosting an endurance race to honour the late Dan Wheldon. The three hour race will raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society.
