Van der Garde in F1 talks

14 September 2010

Dutch driver Giedo van der Garde has revealed that he is in talks with a number of teams about making the move into F1 for the 2011 season.

The Dutch driver previously held the role of test driver for Spyker – after a battle with rivals Super Aguri – back in 2007 but never made the step into a race seat, instead spending recent years in World Series by Renault and GP2.

Van der Garde is one of a number of GP2 drivers seeking to make the step up to F1 for the new season and the 25-year-old revealed he was talking with at least two teams about the possibility of finding a drive.

“We are indeed in talks with some teams,” he told GP Update. “Virgin and Lotus, for sure, but there are also other possibilities.

“Whether anything positive comes of it, time will tell, but Formula 1 is the main goal in my career and I want to race there. It's all still open, so we'll see.”

It remains to be seen how realistic a drive with Virgin or Lotus would be for 2011 with both teams expected to retain their current line-ups for the new season.
