Briatore plays down Pirelli links

16 September 2010

Flavio Briatore has played down talk that suggested he could make a return to the F1 paddock with Pirelli.

Briatore hasn't been involved with the sport since the Singapore race-fixing scandal saw him hit with a ban by the FIA, along with Pat Symonds.

The French publication Auto Hebdo had suggested that the charismatic Italian could take up a role with Pirelli when they make their return to F1 in place of Bridgestone for 2011 but the former Renault boss moved to deny that was the case.

“Pirelli will be in F1 next year but I have no contact with them,” he said. “Why? I don't know, but not now, in another life perhaps.”

Briatore currently has two drivers from his management stable involved in the fight for the 2010 F1 title in the shape of Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber.
