Valsecchi on Hispania radar
8 December 2010
Team boss Colin Kolles has revealed that Davide Valsecchi is amongst the drivers being considered for an F1 race seat for the 2011 season.
Valsecchi produced a solid performance after joining the team for the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi following the final race of the season and has now put himself in the running to earn a seat for the new campaign.
While he refused to name other drivers who are in contention, Kolles revealed that Valsecchi was on the list but said there was no rush to sign anyone up for 2011.
The German also confirmed that work has started on the 2011 HRT chassis following the demise of the planned partnership with Toyota.
"I think he did a very good job in the test, this is what I think about him,” Kolles told 422race.com
when asked about Valsecchi. “If he does the same job as he did in the test, then he's ready to be in Formula One next season.
“We are talking to him and to many other drivers too, as you might know: I'm not going to comment on which are the drivers, because I don't think it's right to comment to whom I'm talking to unless I have a contract signed. We are not necessarily in a hurry, the deadline is three days before the first race. But the sooner the better.
“The 2011 car? We will have one. And we are in the process of manufacturing the car."
Valsecchi himself insisted he doesn't want to simply plod around at the rear of the field, but said he felt confident that Hispania will take a step forwards in 2011.
"Obviously my dream is to race in Formula 1, as for all the drivers,” he said. “But if this means to be always at the back, then I'd have more fun to race and win in GP2. But I have to say that the first contacts with Hispania impressed me and I think next year they'll be able to do a big step forward, even thanks to the gearbox supply signed with Williams. So this makes me confident they'll be much more competitive than this year."
