Stewart: Focused Vettel will be a multiple F1 champ

16 December 2010

Three-time F1 champion Sir Jackie Stewart has backed Sebastian Vettel to become a multiple title winner himself on the back of his maiden success during the 2010 season.

Vettel secured the title in the season finale in Abu Dhabi after victory in the race was enough to see him overhaul Fernando Alonso and become champion at the age of just 23.

With only three years of experience of F1, Vettel will now hope to add to his maiden title in the coming seasons and Stewart said he saw no reason why the German can't become a multiple champion during his career.

“Sebastian Vettel will certainly be a multiple world champion,” he said in a recent interview with the Daily Mail. “He is hugely talented, has great ability and magnificent focus. We know that because in order to win it this year he had to win the last race.

“He was fortunate that people like Alonso didn't get higher up in the standings before the last few races but he is a winner and we will definitely see more from him.”

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner agrees that Vettel has the talent to be a multiple champion.

“Sebastian will only continue to get better,” he said. “He is still very young, he is still young and learning. He is immensely fast, very intelligent and he has a lot of years ahead of him.”
