Maldonado to demo Williams in Venezuela

7 January 2011

Pastor Maldonado will celebrate his recent confirmation as an AT&T Williams race driver for F1 2011 by demoing the team's FW32 race car in Venezuela next Friday.

The Grove-based outfit announced the plan for the 25-year-old to run in the car on home ground, just outside of Caracas - around one of the country's most renowned national monuments, Los Proceres - on Thursday.

Maldonado, who won the GP2 Series title last year – F1's principal feeder category, is looking forward to driving the 2010 spec Williams in front of his fellow countrymen.

“I'm so happy the team are coming to Venezuela. To be given the opportunity of driving a Formula One car in front of my fellow countrymen is going to be something very special,” he said.

“We will definitely put on a good show for everyone who attends. Now that I am a confirmed race driver for AT&T Williams, this feels like giving something back to the people who have supported my career and put their faith in me over the years.”

Team boss Frank Williams added: “We are delighted that Pastor has invited us to Venezuela, and for him to be driving our car in his home country.

“Away from the race track, we have demonstrated our cars in many prestigious locations around the world.

“It is always a pleasure to do so, and a privilege to share with the public the sheer power of an F1 car.”
