Virgin again insist D’Ambrosio not at risk
27 May 2011
Virgin Racing team principal John Booth has again insisted that Jerome D'Ambrosio's seat with the team is safe until the end of the season.
The Belgian driver has made a solid start to his F1 career after replacing Lucas di Grassi but reports earlier this month had suggested that his position alongside Timo Glock could be at risk thanks to possible sponsorship problems [See separate story HERE
Although Booth denied the reports at the time, speculation has continued suggesting that the 25-year-old could find himself ousted in favour of Canadian racer Robert Wickens.
However, while Wickens is a part of Virgin's development programme, Booth insisted he wasn't being lined up to replace D'Ambrosio in a race seat.
"He is in our young driver stable but we certainly don't plan on putting him in a F1 car yet,” he told the Sheffield Star
. “Robert is concentrating on his Renault series. He is doing a good job in that. We will then take it from there.
"Everything is fine with Jerome. You can never say never because you can end up looking a fool, but, as things stand now, I can't envisage anything changing with him until the end of the season."
