Buemi eyes tough race after 'difficult’ session

13 November 2011

Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi is anticipating a close battle for points among the midfield runners after a competitive qualifying session in Abu Dhabi for the penultimate round of the F1 2011 season.

Buemi set the 13th quickest time, two places ahead of his team-mate Jaime Alguersuari, but it was a very close session amongst the drivers in the mid-pack teams around the Yas Marina circuit.

“Overall, I am reasonably satisfied with my own performance, even if I am only 13th, one tenth of a second off eleventh place, which shows it was quite a difficult session,” the Swiss driver remarked about the battle fought between the Saubers, Lotus Renaults and Toro Rossos, which occupy the places between eleventh and 16th.

“But I think that, in the cockpit, I did a good job. Unfortunately, the fact that this track is much slower than those at the last three races has not suited us so well,” he added, referring to his inability to match the top ten qualifying performance he produced at the most recent round, the Indian Grand Prix.

Nevertheless, Buemi has far from given up hope of a points finish as Toro Rosso looks to continue its strong run-in to the F1 2011 season.

“Tomorrow's race will be tough and long and anything could happen and I will be looking to exploit any opportunity that comes my way," he noted, "I should be able to fight with those cars directly in front of me on the grid.”

In a tightly bunched midfield, it will indeed come down to whoever takes their chances best as to who scores points in tomorrow's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
