Buemi confident over 2012 chances

12 December 2011

Sebastien Buemi says he is confident that he will retain his drive with Toro Rosso and secure a place on the F1 grid for the 2012 season.

Buemi's future with the team has been at risk for some time, alongside team-mate Jaime Alguersuari, with both Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne seeking to earn race seats after impressive testing performances.

However, the Swiss driver said he was confident that paddock rumours now suggesting that Toro Rosso will be unchanged next year would prove to be correct and that he would be on the grid for another season.

"I should have news in the next two weeks," he told Le Temps. "But I'm very confident. I already have events organised for next year, although confirmation of my place is not there yet. I am continuing to work normally, as I have always done, to prepare for the 2012 season.

"[The uncertainty] is Formula One and that's what we have to live with - once you're there, you have to be prepared to withstand the pressure."

Longer term, Buemi said he remained focused on moving to a team that would allow him to challenge for race wins.

"To get the best results at Toro Rosso and then to go into a team that will allow me to fight at the front,” he said when asked about future aims. “I am fortunate to be part of Red Bull, which has the world champion team. It means there are opportunities to go further."
