Boullier unsure on Kubica future

12 December 2011

Lotus Renault GP team boss Eric Boullier admits he is unsure if there will be a future for the team with Robert Kubica after the announcement of its 2012 F1 line-up.

Having announced the signing of Kimi Raikkonen, the Enstone-based team confirmed that Romain Grosjean will be in a race seat for 2012.

Those announcements came after Kubica was quoted as saying he wouldn't be ready for the start of the 2012 season as he continues to recover from the injuries sustained in his rallying accident and – having always maintained that the team was ready for his return – Boullier has now admitted that he doesn't know if there will be a future with the Pole.

"I don't know if there will be a future between Lotus Renault and Robert," he told the BBC. "We have been waiting for Robert to understand his plans. We would like to sit down with him and his manager to see what can be done to get him back in F1.

"If we can help him get in back in F1 we will, but we have signed our drivers for next year and we want to stick with them."

Rumours have suggested that Kubica is being targeted elsewhere in the paddock, and Boullier added that the team would need long-term commitment from its driver if it was to give him full use of

"We need to discuss a more global plan to see what he can do and if he can commit to us long term,” he said.
