Barrichello hints at Williams deal
23 December 2011
Rubens Barrichello has hinted that he could remain with Williams for the 2012 season despite speculation that the experienced Brazilian was facing the real possibility of losing his drive.
Williams endured a disastrous 2011 campaign with Barrichello scoring just four points – the third lowest tally he has secured during an F1 career that started all the way back in 1993.
For some time, questions have been raised about whether Barrichello would extend his F1 career into another season, with Adrian Sutil having been linked with his drive following his departure from Force India.
Bruno Senna has also emerged as another candidate for the drive after his departure from Renault, and has been seen visiting the Williams factory in Grove [See separate story HERE
] as he attempts to secure his own place on the grid for next season.
However, while many have written off Barrichello's chances of retaining his drive, the 39-year-old has now suggested that he could be close to extending his deal with Williams into a third year, hinting on Twitter
that he was still very much in the running to partner Pastor Maldonado again in 2012.
"Just came back from England,” he wrote. “Now some holidays...and waiting for good news from Williams."
Barrichello is the most experienced driver on the F1 grid, having made more than 320 race starts for teams including Jordan, Ferrari, Honda and Brawn GP.
