Rossi 'many steps closer to F1'

30 December 2011

American youngster Alexander Rossi believes he is now 'many steps closer to F1' following a successful 2011.

Rossi, who finished third overall in the World Series by Renault 3.5 Series this year and who is also a senior member of the Team Lotus (now Caterham) F1 Driver development programme, added he is 'excited' about 2012 and the future, although his plans for next season have still to be officially announced.

“When I stop and reflect on my career thus far, I have so much to be thankful for,” said the 20-year-old, who took in the F1 young driver test in Abu Dhabi in November with Team Lotus. “There are so many people that have made it possible for me to race each season that I'm truly humbled when I stop and think about it. I love to race, this is my life!

“Since 10 years old when I was given my first opportunity to race in karts, my passion, drive and determination has always been the same: to make and succeed in F1. I've made the most of every opportunity that I've been fortunate to have and I'm continually reminded of the large number of people that include investors and sponsors that believe in me, who have also sacrificed so much for me to be where I am today.

“2011 was great year of hard work and many new successes and we are now many steps closer to F1.

“This past year could not have been possible without the support of Team Lotus (now Caterham F1) and belief from Tony Fernandes along with FIA Institute and my race winning WSR team, Fortec Motorsports.

“I am very excited about the relationships we have formed and my future in motorsports,” he concluded.
