Massa: We won't be looking at the stopwatch

19 February 2012

Felipe Massa has said Ferrari won't be looking at the timesheets this week when F1 2012 pre-season testing resumes.

The Scuderia languished near the bottom end of the times on three of the four days at Jerez earlier this month, only topping the table on the final day.

Despite that though, Massa has reiterated that in his view the new Ferrari F2012 has 'plenty of potential'.

He also added that once again they won't be chasing times and that the key focus at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya is mileage.

“There's a lot of work to do to fine tune the F2012 but, as both Fernando [Alonso] and I said last week, I think this car has plenty of potential,” Massa told Ferrari's official website following two days in the team's simulator.

“It will be important to do a lot of kilometres next week, because we have many ideas we want to try out and it's essential we don't have any problems: I know that on this front too, the team has worked assiduously to ensure that me and Fernando can do a lot of laps.

“I'll say it before we even start: again this coming session, we won't be looking at the stopwatch, especially as you can never know what your rivals are running. The truth will only begin to emerge in Melbourne [next month, when the season starts with the Australian GP].”
