Kubica has elbow surgery

6 June 2012

Robert Kubica has had more surgery in a bid to improve the mobility of his elbow following his life threatening rally crash last January.

The Pole, who has been sidelined from F1 ever since the accident, was operated on last month. The procedure was carried out by Dr Roger Testoni, head of hand surgery at the Pederzoli nursing home and involved having part of his elbow replaced by two prostheses. According to reports by Italian newspaper Tuttosport the operation was a complete success.

“This way the driver can handle the full wheel, where as previously he was unable to move the palm down and was forced to remove his hand from the steering wheel through left-hand corners,” Testoni explained.

The operation comes in the wake of a series of tests carried out in an F1 simulator.

The former BMW and Renault driver will now need more physiotherapy to further help with his recovery.
