Glock to miss European Grand Prix

24 June 2012

The European Grand Prix will go ahead with just 23 cars after it was confirmed that Timo Glock had not sufficiently recovered from his stomach bug.

The Marussia F1 driver, who struggled through the various free practice sessions, was forced to sit out Saturday's qualifying after taking medical advice, but remained hopeful of being allowed to line up at the rear of the grid if the stewards deemed his earlier lap times to be within the 107 per cent mark.

Now, however, sources at the Circuito Urbano are claiming that the German will also miss round eight of the 2012 season, with the high temperatures in Valencia exacerbating his symptoms.

“Further to the medical problem which prevented Timo Glock from participating in yesterday's qualifying session for the European Grand Prix in Valencia, the Marussia F1 can confirm that Timo is unable to compete in today's race," a team statement read, “Timo received medical guidance yesterday afternoon and his symptoms suggest that he is suffering from an intestinal infection. He has been advised that it would be unwise for him to race given the severity of the complaint and that he should focus instead on recuperating.

“Timo spent the evening resting at his hotel in Valencia and is in good spirits. He will return home later today.”
