Glock: I had no choice but to sit it out
28 June 2012
Timo Glock insists he was disappointed to be forced out of the European Grand Prix in Valencia but says he had no option but to withdraw from the event on medical grounds.
The Marussia driver was struck down by an intestinal infection during the weekend in Spain, which forced him to miss both qualifying and race day – leaving Charles Pic as the only man in action for the Cosworth-powered team.
Glock will now hope to return to action for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone next weekend, with the former Toyota man saying he was hopeful of being able to resume training in the coming days.
"Generally I am feeling much better,” he said. “I still feel a little weak in the legs, but otherwise I am okay.
"It was obviously very disappointing that I was forced to miss the race in Valencia, but that is the way it goes sometimes. You cannot just ignore the symptoms I was experiencing. I am now on my way to a full recovery, although it will be a few more days before I am allowed to train again.
"I am now looking forward to the forthcoming weeks. Included on the programme is my home race with my Marussia F1 Team, which means it will be a busy and demanding period with lots of events and activities. However, by then I should be totally fit again."
