Perez: 'Dangerous' Maldonado will hurt someone

8 July 2012

Sergio Perez has called on the stewards to take action against 'dangerous' Pastor Maldonado and he has warned that if they don't someone may get hurt.

Perez's comments come in the wake of today's British Grand Prix and following their coming together on lap 12. Perez went to try and overtake the Williams into Brooklands, but Maldonado seemed to lose the back of his car and then the two collided.

Perez was forced out there and then in his Sauber and while Maldonado could continue, his race was also effectively ruined. Both had been on course for points.

“Pastor is a driver that doesn't respect other drivers,” Perez told BBC Sport when questioned about his view on the incident. “It's just a matter of fact. I was already in front and if not he should have given me enough space not to crash. But he tried to push me all the way to the outside.

“I don't understand the way he is driving. I really hope the stewards do something because in the last three or four races he has done something to someone. It is not the first time he has damaged my weekend. He did the same with Lewis [Hamilton] in Valencia and they only gave him a drive-through [penalty]. I don't think that is enough.

“He will never learn if they don't do something. He's a very dangerous driver and he can hurt someone.”

Perez also revealed that a number of drivers are not happy with the way the Venezuelan races: “Everybody has concerns about him. He's a driver who doesn't respect, doesn't know we are risking our lives and has no respect at all. It is not a matter of if he closed the door, he just has no respect.

“The way he is driving, I really think the stewards have to do something now because it is not the first time he does something. He really affects a lot of drivers. I'm not the only one,” Perez concluded.

Maldonado meanwhile has refused to get drawn into a war of words and merely said the incident was 'very disappointing' [see separate story - HERE].

The stewards are to investigate the incident.
