Hamilton: Red Bull the strongest car

4 October 2012

Lewis Hamilton has said that he feels Red Bull has the strongest car heading into this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.

Hamilton's comments come on the back of Sebastian Vettel's victory last time out in Singapore, although that win was only secured after Hamilton himself was forced to retire from the lead with a mechanical issue.

Prior to that retirement, McLaren had very much been the team to beat with three straight victories but Hamilton said he felt Red Bull were the team to watch as F1 prepares for the Suzuka race.

“I think the Red Bull's probably the best car," the Briton told Sky Sports. "It's slightly better than us. But generally I think we've got a very good car. It's improving and it's definitely in the top three."

McLaren has already made it clear it will back Hamilton in the title race despite his decision to move on for next season, and the Briton said he would be pushing hard to try and overhaul Fernando Alonso in the points race.

"[It's] a long way [to Alonso], but I've got a lot of faith in this team what they've been doing recently with the upgrades, I really think we have a good chance," he said. "But who knows what's going to happen.

"We've got six races left, win or lose it's important to just have a good time, enjoy it and just do your best. That's all you can hope for."
