Webber takes Korean GP pole

13 October 2012

Red Bull Racing duly took pole position for the Korean Grand Prix, but it was Mark Webber and not Sebastian Vettel who wound up posting the fastest time.

Vettel had been fastest through the first two phases of qualifying, and had posted the best provisional time in Q3, but failed to match his team-mate through the opening sector of their deciding laps and it was Webber's 1min 37.242secs effort that proved to be the best by just under a tenth after the German failed to better his earlier mark.

Lewis Hamilton will start on the inside of row two after finding an improvement on his second run, deposing Fernando Alonso who could only manage fourth spot in his bid to stop Vettel from overhauling him at the top of the points table.

With Jenson Button out of the picture after failing to make it through Q2, Kimi Raikkonen went fifth fastest, ahead of Felipe Massa, Romain Grosjean, Nico Hulkenberg and the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher.
