Massa backed to repay Ferrari trust

16 October 2012

Team boss Stefano Domenicali says he is sure that Felipe Massa will repay Ferrari for the faith shown in him after it was confirmed that the Brazilian will stay on for another season.

After months of speculation, Ferrari has finally confirmed that Massa has agreed a new deal that will see him stay with the team until the end of 2013.

Having endured a tough start to the year, Massa has bounced back to form in recent events and secured his first podium since 2010 when he finished second in Japan.

With his future now secure for another season, the Brazilian will aim to repay the team with results on track and Domenicali said he expected to Massa repay the trust shown in him.

"We are pleased to have extended our relationship with Felipe for another year," he said. "He has been part of our family for over a decade and has shown, especially in the latter part of the season, to be competitive at the highest levels, as we expect every driver to be behind the wheel of a Ferrari.

"We have always supported Felipe, even in the most difficult moments of his career, and we are confident in his value, and that he will repay the trust that has been renewed."

Massa himself was understandably thrilled with the confirmation of his new deal, which was brought forward a week by the team in order to end ongoing speculation about his future.

“I am very happy to have reached this agreement,” he said. “Ferrari is my racing family and throughout my entire time in Formula 1, I have always driven cars powered by engines built in Maranello: I can't see myself driving cars propelled by anything else!

“First and foremost, I want to thank President Montezemolo and Stefano Domenicali, who had faith in me and who have always supported me, even at the most difficult moments. The team and also all the fans can rest assured that I will do all in my power to help the Scuderia reach the targets it sets itself each year.”
