Toro Rosso confirms Abu Dhabi test line-up
24 October 2012
Scuderia Toro Rosso will revealed that GP2 Series race winners Luiz Razia and Johnny Cecotto Jr will be behind the wheel when it takes part in next month's three-day 'young driver' test in Abu Dhabi.
The Italian team is the fifth to reveal its line-up in the past couple of days and will hand over the car usually campaigned by Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne to the pair of 23-year olds as it fits the test in between the Abu Dhabi and United States grands prix. Six of the sport's twelve teams took the opportunity to move their young driver evaluations to either Silverstone or Magny-Cours earlier in the year, leaving STR to face off against McLaren, Red Bull, Sauber, Lotus and Caterham at Yas Marina.
Razia will have two days at the wheel of the STR7, running on Tuesday and Thursday, while Cecotto runs on the Wednesday. The Brazilian finished second for Arden in this year's series, after a season-long battle Davide Valsecchi - who is due to run with Lotus during the test - and brings previous experience of driving an F1 car from a young driver tests in both 2010 and '11 and a rare FP1 outing with what is now the Caterham team at the 2011 Chinese Grand Prix.
Cecotto, meanwhile, will be making his F1 debut in Abu Dhabi, and will emulate his father, who made a successful switch from a highly-decorated motorcycle racing career to rise to the heights of F1 in 1983, and ran as team-mate to the late Ayrton Senna in 1984. His career was sadly cut short by an accident at Brands Hatch which left him with broken legs, although he returned to become a leading light in touring cars. Cecotto Jr broke into the ranks of GP2 winners this season, with victories in Monaco and Germany, and finished ninth overall in the standings running with Barwa Addax.
