Di Resta: Abu Dhabi crucial for Force India

31 October 2012

Paul di Resta has said that Abu Dhabi this weekend will be a crucial race for Force India as it looks to try and catch Sauber in the constructors' championship.

The team is 23 points behind its Swiss rivals with three races to run but has scored in the last six races to bring the gap down – although di Resta himself hasn't scored since taking fourth in Singapore.

The Scot will aim to end that run of form at Yas Marina and he admitted that a strong result was crucial to aid the team's challenge.

“The whole team has been working hard to try and understand the issues we had in India,” he said. We've seen some things in the data so hopefully we can get on top of them and back up to speed right from the start of practice on Friday.

“Abu Dhabi is a crucial weekend for us. The car was quite strong there last year so there's every reason to believe that will carry over into this year. Also, it's the sort of track that has suited us this year so hopefully we can maximise things and get both cars in the points.

“If we want to get close to Sauber that's what we need to do. We need to make sure we have a strong run through until the end of the year.”

Team-mate Nico Hulkenberg will aim to maintain his run of scoring finishes and said Yas Marina should be better suited to the VJM05 than the Buddh International Circuit was last weekend.

“I think Abu Dhabi should suit us a bit more than India,” he said. “It's a twisty circuit with more low-speed corners and it's a bit more like Singapore, where we looked quite competitive. So I'm optimistic going there.”
