Button excited about 2013, expects MP4-28 to suit him more

15 November 2012

Jenson Button has said he is expecting McLaren's 2013 F1 challenger to suit him better than this year's model and that is he already looking forward to the next campaign.

Button has won two races this season, but he hasn't done as well as he has in his previous two years with McLaren and earlier this month he described 2012 as his 'worst' year with the Woking-based outfit.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's inaugural United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas, JB reiterated that the real issue with the MP4-27 has been its lack of consistency from track to track. However he doesn't think that will be as big an issue in 2013.

“For me this year has been more difficult than the last two years,” he told Sky Sports News. “The car is quick, we've proved that on many occasions.

"But for consistency for me it's been a little bit more difficult to get the results. The car next year should suit me a bit more, which I'm very excited about.”

Despite the issues with the MP4-27 though, Button remains pretty confident ahead of the race in Austin, the 19th and penultimate round in the 2012 F1 World Championship.

“We should be competitive here,” he added, “but I'm sure Red Bull Racing will be, I'm sure Ferrari will be and Lotus [too]. So it will be a competitive race and that's what we want as well - we don't want one person to go away [at the front] and win this grand prix...”
