Red Bull sure fuel issue resolved

16 November 2012

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner says he is sure that there will be no repeat of the fuelling issue that caused Sebastian Vettel to lose his grid position in Abu Dhabi.

Vettel qualified in third place at Yas Marina but was then excluded from qualifying after being unable to provide the required sample of fuel at the end of Q3.

Both Red Bull and Renault looked into the issue, with it becoming apparent that there hadn't been as much fuel in the car as the team had expected.

Horner has now revealed that procedures will be changed from this weekend onwards to ensure that the problem doesn't occur again

"We've certainly revised our procedures and we've been working with Renault to understand why the fuel wasn't in the car that was expected to be in there and I think there were a whole bunch of tolerances that quite frankly we were unlucky with at the end of the day," he was quoted by ESPNF1. "We need to have learnt from it, there's been a big review undertaken and hopefully as a result of that it won't happen again.

"There will be some procedural changes, checks, counter-checks and re-checks. The procedure hadn't really changed for four or five years because it's worked and it's established.

“It just demonstrates that when you are working on the edge the margins are very fine."
