Vettel: So far we can be happy...

23 November 2012

Sebastian Vettel declared himself 'happy' following practice today for this Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.

Vettel has a 13-point lead over Fernando Alonso going into this weekend's final round in the 2012 F1 World Championship and in both sessions at Interlagos he ended up second in his Renault-powered Red Bull RB8, just fractionally behind pace setter Lewis Hamilton, and ominously for Ferrari, a few tenths up on his Spanish title rival.

“It was alright today, it was very slippery for everyone. It was quite hot and in terms of track conditions not that easy, so I think everyone suffered the same kind of problems looking for traction and stability etc,” Vettel said.

“So far we can be happy [though], we have to do our homework now, first comes tomorrow morning and we go from there.”

Mark Webber meanwhile was also at the top end of the times in the sister car, and he was third in both sessions - his best lap a 1 minute 14.198 seconds, which was just 0.058 seconds slower than his team-mate.

“The track was slippery today, it's very hot,” added the Aussie. “I think we're all a little bit surprised by the lack of grip we had, but we got what we could out of today in these conditions.

“We got through plenty of stuff and also did a bit of '13 work, which was useful.

“It's the last test before next year, so we made the most of the beautiful sunny day in Brazil, before we go to colder Jerez in February [for the first F1 2013 group test].”
