Hamilton set for early Mercedes contact

27 November 2012

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he has been granted permission to speak with members of his new Mercedes team despite the fact his current deal with McLaren doesn't expire until the end of the season.

Hamilton will switch to the Brackley-based team next year to partner Nico Rosberg as his long relationship with McLaren draws to a close, with his final race in Brazil ending in disappointment after his retired following contact with Nico Hulkenberg.

The Briton is now set to say farewell to McLaren staff in Woking before embarking on his new career and he admitted that the future will be 'interesting'.

“I won't be doing much technical work with Mercedes,” Hamilton told the Daily Telegraph. “But Martin [Whitmarsh] says I am allowed to talk to people.

“I am going to have the biggest holiday I have had in a long, long time. I look forward to having, like, a third of the PR events that I have here. Maybe even a quarter. To having a bit more time in my life to be able to train and prepare. It will be a new car and a new experience and it is going to be interesting.”

McLaren will replace Hamilton with Mexican racer Sergio Perez.
