Ricciardo pleased with progress

11 December 2012

Daniel Ricciardo says he is pleased with the progress he has made as a driver after bringing the curtain down on his first full season in F1.

The Australian secured a race seat with Toro Rosso for the 2012 campaign having competed for HRT in the latter stages of 2011, but endured a difficult campaign as the team struggled to get the best out of the STR7.

While he finished inside the top ten on six occasions, Ricciardo only picked up ten points all season but he insisted he had learnt a lot that he can take into 2013 when he returns for a second full year with the team.

"Progression was one of them; I felt like I was definitely learning throughout the year," he said when asked for the positives from the season just gone. "Experience, lessons learnt - on paper it probably doesn't sound like much but I know for next year I can put it to paper now.

"I learned a lot, definitely, and I feel I'm much better for it. We didn't have the quickest car all the time and we had to try and find some other solutions at times which made us understand a bit more and I think it will serve us well for next year."

When pushed on the biggest thing he had learnt, Ricciardo was clear on his answer.

"Qualifying is one thing, race is another,” he said. “I'm not talking about Bahrain, not at all!"
