Glock positive over Marussia potential

2 January 2013

Timo Glock says he is positive about the future potential of the Marussia team after it reaped the benefit of its tie-up with McLaren during 2012.

Having split with Wirth Research, Marussia entered into a technical partnership with McLaren, which included use of a wind-tunnel for the first time.

Work in the wind tunnel was pivotal in Marussia closing the gap to rivals Caterham over the course of 2012, with the team coming close to securing tenth in the championship standings despite starting the campaign with a car that had carried out no pre-season testing prior to the Australian Grand Prix.

"I think the wind tunnel work paid off since we went to McLaren, and that looks very positive for the future," Glock was quoted by Sporting Life. "It was a difficult year in 2012 with a very difficult start; going to Australia with no testing. But I think since then we've improved the car quite a lot.

"I didn't think that we would close the gap again because we were 1.5s off Caterham [on race pace] and then closed the gap very quickly over the second half of the season, which is great."

Marussia will also benefit from the introduction of KERS for the first time in 2013 having run without the device in 2012.
