Wolff: I need time in Mercedes role

27 January 2013

New Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff admits that he will have to spend more time in his role to fully analyse what now needs to be done.

Wolff was named as the replacement for Norbert Haug in a shock move earlier this month, moving over to Mercedes from his role as an executive director of the Williams team.

The 41-year-old has already been forced to deny reports that Ross Brawn could be replaced as head of Mercedes' F1 team and he admitted that he would need more time in the role to fully understand what the German marque needs to do differently with its motorsport activities.

“I can't really tell [what I'm going to do],” he told Pitpass. “I think I have probably the same knowledge that you do from watching them and seeing what has happened. What you can see is you have a leader there who has won multiple titles with Benetton, Ferrari and Brawn and it needs to be properly analysed.

“I haven't even been a full day in Brackley. I have to look at it, watch it and then hopefully understand the stuff. Then I can make up my mind but I am not yet there.

“In the meantime, I am involved a lot with the other motorsport activities of Mercedes-Benz. We were in Valencia and have tested Robert Kubica in one of our cars, so there is a lot to do apart from Formula One.”
