Ferrari pleased with Bianchi graduation
2 March 2013
qFerrari says is it pleased with the announcement that Jules Bianchi will race for Marussia during the 2013 F1 season.
The Anglo-Russian team confirmed on Friday evening that it had agreed a deal with the young Frenchman, who replaces Luiz Razia as team-mate to Max Chilton.
Razia, who had been named as the team's second driver, saw his contract terminated over sponsorship issues.
Bianchi's deal to drive the MR02 makes him the first driver to come through the Ferrari Driver Academy into an F1 drive and Luca Baldisserri, the head of the programme, said he was delighted to see the Frenchman get his chance.
“We are pleased that Jules now has the chance to demonstrate his undoubted talent in the highest level of motor sport,” he said of the former Force India reserve. “To progress, it's not enough just to do the kilometres in testing or during Friday free practice at the Grands Prix, one needs to go up against strong opposition in races.
“We believe in his qualities and we are convinced that he will be able to show his worth, even in a championship as competitive as this one. For our part, we will continue to provide him all our support, compatible with the needs of his new team.”
