Massa aiming high in Shanghai

9 April 2013

Ferrari's Felipe Massa is aiming high ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix as he seeks to extend his run of points finishes.

Whilst stopping short of singling Ferrari out as favourites for the win, Massa believes the Italian team is capable of another strong result at the Shanghai International Circuit following some simulator work at Maranello last week.

“We are well prepared for China and we will have all the updates we hoped to bring with us in Shanghai, after work in the factory and the simulator last week,” he said.

“I hope this translates into a further performance improvement on track. Shanghai is a very nice track with a variety of corner types and fast straights, so you definitely need a car that works well in the fast sections."

Massa also believes that tyre degradation will once again play a big role in this weekend's Grand Prix due to the varied nature of the circuit.

“You definitely need a car that works well in the fast sections, but you also need it to have plenty of downforce to deal with the tighter turns," he said.

"We can expect to see quite high tyre degradation, especially on the fronts.”

The Paulista concluded that given the solid nature of Ferrari's 2013 challenger, the F138, points are his minimum requirement from this weekend and a podium or win is not out of reach.

“The aim is to fight for a lot more points, for a podium, for a win even," he said, "because you have to set yourself high targets.”

Massa has enjoyed an encouraging start to the season, out-qualifying Alonso in the two opening races and the Brazilian lies one place ahead of his teammate in fifth place in the championship with 22 points.
