Hamilton confident of victory chances
24 April 2013
Lewis Hamilton says he is confident that he will win a race in the 2013 F1 season following his switch from McLaren to Mercedes.
The Briton has taken two podium finishes so far this year and qualified on pole position in China, meaning he currently sits third in the championship standings ahead of the return to Europe.
The pace shown by Hamilton and Nico Rosberg thus far has suggested that Mercedes could have a part to play in the title race this season and Hamilton said he felt sure that he would be able to take a victory before the year is out.
"I am hopeful we can win this year, particularly as we have things coming in the pipeline with upgrades and improvements for the car" he told Sky Sports
. "In some places the tyre degradation isn't going to be as bad [as in Bahrain] and I'm confident we can stay out front."
Many questioned whether Hamilton had made the right move in leaving McLaren over the winter, but the 2008 title winner said the way in which his relationship with Mercedes had developed thus far led him to feel his decision was the right one.
"Everyone moves on and tries something new and I'm really enjoying it. But not because it is better - it's just different," he said. "The team is different, there's a different set of people who l am really enjoying working with and it's a new set of challenges, which is what I wanted.
"I feel more comfortable in my own skin. Bit by bit you try to adjust things and make things better and I just feel that my approach, my fitness and my mind-set seems to be better than ever."
