Lotus protégé to take F1 home to Manila

1 May 2013

The Philippines will get a rare taste of F1 action this weekend as grand prix aspirant Marlon Stockinger gets behind the wheel of a Lotus as part of a demonstration at the first-ever Manila Speedshow.

The event, which will also include a pit-stop competition amongst other motoring-related sideshows, is designed to celebrate the emergence of Filipino talent in the industry, led by 22-year old Stockinger, who was handpicked by the Lotus F1 Team as part of a group of seven elite junior drivers.

“Motorsport can be very daunting for young drivers, particularly everything that occurs away from the track,” Lotus team principal Eric Boullier admitted, “We hope to give our drivers the very best preparation possible for their future careers.”

Stockinger has been making waves since he first entered karting in Europe as a teenager. Having raced in the GP3 Series last year, winning on the streets of Monaco, he has stepped up to the World Series by Renault this season, and will return to Europe after his flying visit to Manila to resume his campaign in Monte Carlo.
