Gutierrez has 'full Sauber support'

8 May 2013

Team owner Peter Sauber has put his support behind Esteban Gutierrez despite the Mexican enduring a tough start to his debut season in F1.

Gutierrez has failed to score in his first four races and was involved in an accident in China when he misjudged the closing speed to the Force India of Adrian Sutil ahead and collided with rear of the German.

Despite the fact he is currently only ahead of the two Marussia and two Caterham drivers in the standings, Sauber insisted he had faith his young charger to come good – even though neither team or driver were currently happy with the results on track.

“Of course we are not happy with his results so far, and neither is he,” he told Blick. “But after four races that doesn't lead us to a discussion about the drivers.

“Esteban has the full support of the team, so that he can turn his talent into results. We have not supported him for several years for nothing.

“He has brought exactly what we expected him to, He is not only quick but also consistent, and provides the engineers with valuable information.

“It's up to us now to give him a car to take regularly into Q3 and compete for top positions.”
