Spanish Grand Prix 2013: Rosberg claims pole

11 May 2013

Nico Rosberg claimed the third pole position in a row for Mercedes as he headed a team 1-2 in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.

The German posted two laps good enough for top spot on the grid at the Circuit de Catalunya, while team-mate Lewis Hamilton, who opted for a single run, had to make do with second spot after slight errors in both the opening sectors. Regardless, the two Mercedes were the only cars to break into the 1min 20s, with Rosberg setting pole at 1min 20.718secs.

Sebastian Vettel was 'best of the rest' in third place, having also opted for just one run, while Kimi Raikkonen and home favourite Fernando Alonso rounded out the top five.

Felipe Massa will line up alongside his team-mate on row three, with Romain Grosjean, Mark Webber, Sergio Perez and Paul di Resta rounding out the top ten.
