Di Resta underweight, demoted to back of grid

29 June 2013

Paul di Resta will have to start the British Grand Prix from the back of the grid after post-qualifying scrutineering found his Force India to be 1.5kg underweight.

“After the third qualifying session car number 14, driver Paul di Resta, was weighed 641.5kg, 0.5kg under the minimum weight as required by the Formula One Technical Regulations," read a statement issued by the FIA's technical delegate, Jo Bauer.

"After this the car was completely drained of fuel in order to establish that the minimum weight of the car without fuel, 642kg, was respected at all times,”

Once the fuel was removed from the car the Force India tipped the scales at 640kg but later it was found that the FIA scales were calibrated slightly incorrectly and that the car weighed 640.5kg.

The Scot had been over the moon after qualifying in fifth position, but now faces a very different grand prix.
