F1 2013 standings after the Italian Grand Prix
8 September 2013
Sebastian Vettel is now 53 points ahead of Fernando Alonso after round 12 of the 2013 world title battle and with just seven races remaining before this year's champion is crowned.
It's looking increasingly hard to see anything derail Vettel's bid for a fourth consecutive championship, although he would be the first to point out that two DNF results in the forthcoming races would virtually wipe out that entire margin if Alonso were able to pick up wins in his stead.
With Vettel on 222 points and Fernando Alonso on 169, the two leaders have pulled away from third-place man Lewis Hamilton who is on 141 points, although at least the Briton is not under any pressure from Kimi Raikkonen who remains on 124 points after a fruitless day at Monza thank to his first lap collision with the rear of Sergio Perez' McLaren at turn 1.
Raikkonen's second pointless outing in a row allows Mark Webber to close up to within four points of the Finn, with Webber now comfortably ahead of Nico Rosberg who is the only other driver to be in triple digits at this point of the season.
Nico Hulkenberg's brilliant run to fifth place in Monza sees him more than double his points tally, and indeed that of Sauber in the championship standings, to 17 points. That still leaves Hulkenberg in 14th place in the drivers championship and Sauber in eighth place in the constructors' battle, but it will have done the besieged Swiss squad the world of good nonetheless.
In the team battle, a double podium for Red Bull sees them ease out their margin over second place to a whopping 104 points; and the second place team is now Ferrari, who recover the runners-up spot by three points from Mercedes thanks to Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa finishing second and fourth respectively.
Lotus is losing touch with the top three teams but nonetheless has a massive advantage over McLaren, who only managed to eke out their lead over Force India by a single point in their ongoing slugfest over fifth place in the standings.CLICK HERE
