Who should replace Folger in MotoGP?

With the shock news of Jonas Folger opting to sit out of the 2018 MotoGP season for Monster Yamaha Tech3 due to illness it leaves a huge opportunity for a rider to step-in at the satellite Yamaha squad.

In November Folger had been diagnosed with 'Gilbert Syndrome' and put on a special diet, with the young German pledging to make a comeback in 2018 after missing the final four rounds of his rookie MotoGP season.

Who do you think should replace Folger at Tech3 for the 2018 MotoGP season?

Crash will be running Forum debates every day during the winter in preparation for the 2018 season debating a range of topics and issues – but you can submit your own ideas here.

New Tech 3 rider for 2018

Tech 3 should sign Sylvain Guintoli or Loris Baz. Both are deserving of good bikes.

gets extra complicated due to Tech3' situation

Hevre said in an interview that Tech3's future is unknown due to they will stay with Yamaha or not. So any new rider comming in must also be ready to accept an unknown future as well. I think a rookie getting a chance is the best option for us viewers and fans. But may to keep sponsors and Yamaha happy,  some one from other Yamaha racing teams will be pulled in.

How about Nicola Canepa. He never quite got the bike he deserved at grand prix or superbike level. And he is an official Yamaha rider. Or Sheridan Morais. Probably wont happen but he seems to have been dumped by Kalio racing... and he is also a Yamaha rider.

Folgers replacement.!

I know it won’t happen but Jonathan Rea?..  he wanted a competitive ride and Zarco has proved the bike is definitely that....perhaps a real possibility would be Romano Fenati! His seat in motor 2 should be easy to fill?

Ooo...Oooo ME!  ME!  yeah right.  how about Ben Spies?

that will never happen because the way he was treated at Yamaha by good'o Lin and team.  he did well at Tech3 and would have to stay there, good for Herve but Yamaha may not be happy.  either way the powers that be will never put an American in the spot.  and loosing the German will not make die ehefrau happy.

How about Bagnaia - hot prospect.

Most likely one of the Yamaha test riders, I'd say Nozane.

And why not... Eugene Laverty

And why not... Eugene Laverty ? He did such a 2016's good season for a rookie with an average bike.

Rea or Baz?

Tech3 are in their last year of sponsorship with Monster. A poor season will certainly mean Monster pulls out. Rea is already sponsored by Monster and as he’s so dominant in WSBK and has MotoGP experience from replacing Stoner, he’d be the logical choice. But does Yamaha want two satellite Yamaha’s chasing the top step and beating their official team? Probably not. Loris Baz is in a middle team with on factory support from BMW. Acquiring his services would be far easier. He also had ridden a Yamaha engines bike and also older version of the Ducati’s. My question is why would Tech3 risk massive financial sponsorship on anyone else? Perhaps only Bagnaia!

Zarco will probably beat

Zarco will probably beat rossi (and possibly vinales) regardless of the spec. If he doesn't it'll show how good the factory teams bike is

Another shout for Loris Baz

Another shout for Loris Baz here.  But to be fair there are any number of deserving riders who would probably do a decent job.  Maybe Karel Abraham's Dad could buy it for him?  (just kidding).
